Ram Gopal Varma who is known to come with controversial films now he is coming with Vangaveeti, film highlighting the faction rivalry between Vangaveeti and Devineni groups in the early 80s in Vijayawada. The film attracted lot of interest and RGV got serious warnings from both the groups. Let us see what impact the film made on movie lovers.
Communist leader Chalasani Venkata Ratnam welcomes Bus Stand Vangaveeti Radha (Sandeep) into his fold in Vijayawada. Radha’s popularity increases more than that of Venkataratnam, and when Venkataratnam insults Radha, he mercilessly murders Venkata Ratnam. From then on there is no stopping Vangaveeti Radha. He becomes extra constitutional power and he even enters student politics with student leaders Devineni Gandhi(Kautilya) , Devineni Nehru(Shrietj) joining his gang. The trio thrives with muscle and brain power. The sudden murder of Radha comes as shock for them. Till then Radha’s brother Ranga who is leading a happy go lucky life, takes over the mantle and gets married to Ratna Kumari (Naina Ganguly). But Ranga and Devineni brothers gets separated due to misunderstands and power play follows between them with a national party presumably Congress roping in Ranga and regional party NTR’s TDP wooing Nehru. Both groups seek revenge for each others insults and to find out more about it watch the film on big screen.
Sandeep as Vangaveeti Radha and Ranga made powerful presence in both characters. His expressions, dialogue delivery and body language are good . Same is the case with Shritej and Vamsi who acted as Devineni Nehru and Devineni Murali. Naina Ganguly too performed her role with intensity. Other actors performed well in their roles.
Sensational Director Ram Gopal Varma is known to portray real life characters and their biopics in a extremely realistic and natural manner. He attracts with his story, screenplay and direction in Vangaveeti movie too. However audience will be disappointed as he stayed away from many controversies and played safe. In this process, the film turned out to be extremely routine. He did show his glimpses and penchant for controversy by showing Ratnakumari as a villain and naming NTR in the background while he played safe with other characters like Mudragada Padnamabham or Venkataratnam. He is known to get the actors who suit the real life characters. He once again makes impact with the selection of cast and crew. RGV’s voice over is another highlight in the film.
Background score of Ravi Shankar made powerful impact. Music is Okay but songs placement slowed the tempo of the film. Cinematography is good. Editor had chance to trim few dragged scenes in second half especially. Dialogues are just average and production values are fine.
Vangaveeti movie is routine revenge drama mixed with extreme violence pales staying away from controversy.
First half starts with intensity and carries the same till the interval. The introduction of various characters has been done in a interesting manner and viewers get glued to the screen. However Vangaveeti Ranga’s presence gets reduced in the second half with RGV concentrating on how rivals try to eliminate Vangaveeti. Towards climax, movie becomes so dragged.
Those Who wants to know about Vijayawada past can watch the film but for other it’s routine revenge drama. Kids and family audience can safely stay away.
